Play Readers will meet Feb. 1

Play Readers of Denton will meet Feb. 1, 2011, starting at 7 pm upstairs at the Campus Theatre to read a play out loud. Last week, our group read two short plays: Another Way Out by Lawrence Langner and Two Sisters and a Piano by Nilo Cruz.

The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton will be Feb. 15 at 7 pm.

The premiere production for DCT's Black Box Performing Arts Center, David Ives' All in the Timing, will run Feb. 11-13. General admission tickets are $10 each, and the Black Box only seats 75, so get your tickets early!

Auditions for DCT's production of Snoopy!!! the musical will be Feb. 7 and 8 at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre: more info at http://www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com/snoopyinfo.htm.

Play Readers will meet Jan. 25

Play Readers of Denton will meet upstairs at the Campus Theatre at 7 pm to read a play out loud.

Last week a group of our Playwrights met to talk about the writing process (and improvise some great comic monologues!). The next meeting of the Playwrights of Denton will be Feb. 15.

Brad Speck will be leading the Second Saturdays Seminar on Feb. 12 from 1-3 pm at the Campus Theatre on Basic Lighting. The free workshop is the next in our series of adult education seminars on various theatre topics. Reservations are not required, but we appreciate knowing that you're planning to attend so that we can make enough copies of handouts.

Playwrights of Denton will meet Jan. 18

Playwrights of Denton will meet upstairs at the Campus Theatre starting at 7 pm to support each others' writing processes. Bring your ideas, your monologues, your scenes, acts, and entire plays--everything is welcome! The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton will be Feb. 15.

Play Readers of Denton met Jan. 11 and read Del Shores' Daughters of the Lone Star State. Play Readers will next meet Jan. 25.

Denton Community Theatre's contest production of Proof opens Fri., Jan. 14 and runs until the 23rd. The show will be performed exactly as it will be for the American Association of Community Theatre's competition, which begins in Lewisville the last weekend in January, and may take the cast and crew to state (which DCT won in 2009 with Doubt), national (which DCT won in 2007 with Crowns), and even international (Crowns was invited to perform in Germany for an international theatre festival) levels.

Play Readers of Denton will meet Jan. 11

Play Readers of Denton will meet upstairs at the Campus Theatre at 7 pm on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, to read a play out loud. Last week, our group celebrated the new year by reading Noel Coward's Private Lives.

The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton will be January 18.

DCT Outreach Director Julie Brinker will be leading the Second Saturdays Seminar from 1-3 pm on January 8 at the Campus Theatre. The topic will be "Best Foot Forward: the Basics of Blocking and Stage Notation" and will cover what directors hope their actors already know (but so many don't!), including cheating out, easy rules for stage compositions and stances, and quick abbreviations for writing for noting stage blocking in scripts. The program is free, but we appreciation knowing that you're planning to attend, so that we can make enough handouts to go around. DCT's competition production of Proof opens Friday, Jan. 14, at the Campus Theatre. The drama will be presented exactly as it will be produced at the AACT competition (which DCT won in 2007 with Crowns, and took the state title in 2009 with Doubt). Congratulations to Play Readers Wes Porter, who made it into the final cut of the Coen Brothers' newest movie, True Grit, and Damon Wadyko and Julie Brinker, who have been cast in Greater Lewisville Community Theatre's production of The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie, opening Feb. 11!
