Play Readers will meet Sept. 7

Play Readers of Denton will meet Tuesday, Sept. 7, at 7 pm upstairs at the Campus Theatre to read a play out loud. August 31 will be the rare 5th Tuesday of a month, so we'll be taking a break that night. This past Tuesday, we filled every place at the Board Room table to read The Mystery of Edwin Drood--thanks again to Dr. Don Vann for getting the word out to the Dickens Fellowship!

The next meeting of Playwrights of Denton will be Sept. 21 at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre.

Auditions for Drood will be Aug. 29 and 30 at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre. More info at www.dentoncommunitytheatre/droodauditions.htm. Break a leg, everyone!

The Second Saturdays Seminar will be a "Take 2" of the Season Overview seminar in August. Since the Denton Community Theatre email and website both failed when the hard drive crashed, we couldn't get the word out about it, and have heard that folks were disappointed to miss it. So we'll try again on Saturday, Sept. 11, from 1-3 pm upstairs at the Campus Theatre. The seminar is free, but reservations are encouraged. The Second Saturdays Seminars are a free adult-education series about various aspects of the theatre, from backstage to onstage to front-of-house operations.

Hope to see you at the Campus!

Play Readers will meet August 24

Sorry for missing the post last week--the business office computer crashed, and we were without internet or email access for most of a week!

Play Readers will meet August 24 at 7 pm upstairs at the Campus Theatre to read Drood, based on Dickens' unfinished novel The Mystery of Edwin Drood, out loud. This will be our first attempt at reading a musical, so if anyone has suggestions on how to go about it, please let us know. Auditions for Drood are August 29 and 30 at 7 pm at the Campus Theatre.

Back on August 10, Play Readers met to read Donald Margulies' Dinner with Friends. Playwrights of Denton met August 17, and Dan Creson presented the most recent draft of his latest script. Playwrights of Denton will next meet September 21.

This is the last weekend of DCT's smash hit The Producers, if you haven't seen it yet (or want to see it again). Tickets can be purchased online via www.campustheatre.com, over the phone with a credit/debit card M-F 1-5 at 940 382-1915, or in person at the window starting one hour prior to curtain, unless the show is sold out. We had sold-out houses both Friday and Saturday nights of last weekend, so make your plans soon!

Hope to see you at the Campus!

Play Readers will meet August 10

Play Readers of Denton will meet upstairs at the Campus Theatre at 7 pm to read a play out loud. Last week, the group read Keith Reddin's Almost Blue.

Playwrights of Denton will next meet on Tuesday, August 17, at 7 pm. If you're bringing a scene or script and will need readers, please let us know ASAP by emailing thedctteam@campustheatre.com.

Brad Speck and Jim Laney, the co-directors of The Mystery of Edwin Drood, have requested a reading of the script on August 24. There are roles for at least 20 readers, although we can double-cast some roles that night. But please put it on your calendar if you'll be available--we're going to need a lot of folks that night!

The Second Saturdays Seminar on August 14 will be a DCT Season Overview with Outreach Director Julie Brinker. The Seminar is free, and will run 1-3 pm at the Campus Theatre, 214 W. Hickory St., Denton. The Second Saturdays Seminar is an adult education outreach program for Denton Community Theatre, offering workshops and seminars about a variety of theatre topics. Reservations are always appreciated, so we can know how many handouts to make: 940 382-7014 x3 or thedctteam@campustheatre.com.

And, last but not least, DCT opens The Producers this weekend! More info at http://www.dentoncommunitytheatre.com/events_shows.php

See you at the Campus!
