Play Readers of Denton will meet Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 7 pm to read a play out loud. We're planning to read Waiting for Godot by Samuel Beckett. Last week, Play Readers read Ubu the King by Alfred Jarry.
Because of the way the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays fall this
year, the next meeting of Playwrights of Denton will be Jan. 15, 2013!
We're starting to receive submissions for the Method and Madness
competition, so the Second Saturday Seminar on Nov. 10 (1-3 pm at the
Campus Theatre) will be on Reading and Evaluating New Scripts. Potential
adjudicators are encouraged to attend.
Top Hats and Tiles will run Nov. 1-4 at 7:30 pm at the POINTBank Black Box Theatre, 318 E. Hickory St., to honor the generous donors who have purchased commemorative tiles as a fundraiser for the renovation of the space. Play Readers and Writers of Denton will have a place-holder tile until ours is finished and put up. Tickets are $15 each, and seating is limited to 80 for each performance. Conceived and directed by Donna Trammell, this lively production features five
of DCT’s favorite female vocalists – Sherna Armstrong, Maria Harris, Kay Lamb,
Pat Sherman, and Katie Moyes Williams – with John Priddy at the keyboard. This
special event “tips a hat to the ladies of Broadway” with an evening of songs
from shows with women in the title … from Aida and Annie to The Unsinkable Molly Brown. Special guest
and tile donor Bob Rogers will entertain at the piano during the tile wall
preview and reception before each
performance.
